Repaired Pallets
Each year millions of pallets are built and used in the American economy to move numerous and various products. These pallets are used multiple times. These pallets can be repaired and reused after a few uses and then be sent back out for another cycle of shipments.
Used and repaired pallets play an essential role in keeping wooden pallets out of the landfills. Unlike plastic pallets, wood pallets can be repaired and reused after they have been damaged.
Did you know there are different grades of used pallets?
Typically out West, we deal with a #1 or a #2 grade (sometimes referred to as an A or B grade). Used #1 pallets are newer in their life cycle, so they require fewer repairs. Perhaps we have only repaired 1-2 broken boards before they are ready to be used again.
A # 2-grade pallet has been used multiple times. Most noticeably, these may have a broken 2x4, which has been repaired with a block to improve its strength. For example, in the picture to the right, the top pallet has a block added for a repair making it a #2 grade. Also, these may have had several deck boards replaced.
Rest assured – all of the used pallets we sell have been sorted, graded, and repaired to meet the shipping needs of our customers.
Remanufactured Pallets
A remanufactured pallet is different from a used pallet. These pallets are built with used components and with new lumber. Most often, we can cut apart old pallets and recover the deck boards (1x4 and 1x6). We then run them through our automatic nailing equipment with new 2x4’s. Not only is this a way to save customers money, but it is also a responsible way to care for the environment by reusing available lumber.
